Abstract:Tsunami advisory cancelled. Scientific analysis suggests that there is no threat to New Zealand, based on the earthquake magnitude, location and orientation to New Zealand. This cancellation message has been issued to all local civil defence authorities, emergency services, other agencies and media.

Abstract:Environment Bay of Plenty staff have been working throughout the night to monitor rainfall and river levels and ensuring that pumps were functioning across the region to help reduce the possibility of flooding.

Title:Severe weather to be monitored overnight
Abstract:Environment Bay of Plenty staff are continuing to monitor river levels around the region and are on standby to deal with flooding that may occur. Environment Bay of Plenty Rivers and Drainage Group Manager Ken Tarboton said some of the heaviest rainfall has been recorded in the Mangorewa/Kaituna River area and said it is likely that an initial warning will soon be issued for the Kaituna River with levels rising steadily throughout the day.

Abstract:Environment Bay of Plenty is encouraging farmers to move any stock grazing near rivers to higher ground, with further heavy rain forecast for the region. Environment Bay of Plenty Rivers and Drainage Group Manager Ken Tarboton said while the amount of rain was manageable so far, the operations team was organised to respond if rivers began to rise.
